Compare all 6 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Annealed | Softest supplied condition — pick it for deep drawing, heavy bending, flaring or subsequent case hardening. | 205 | 330 | 35 | 95 HB | — |
Hot rolled | Cheapest delivery condition (hot-rolled or as-welded tube/bar with mill scale) for non-critical structural and weldment parts. | 225 | 360 | 28 | 110 HB | — |
+NDefault Normalized | Uniform fine-grained ferrite-pearlite with guaranteed Re ≥195 MPa; the default stock condition for precision tube and general engineering parts. | 230 | 370 | 32 | 105 HB | — |
Cold drawn then soft annealed | Cold-finished tolerances with restored ductility — for tubes that will still be bent, flared or expanded after delivery. | 240 | 360 | 25 | 108 HB | — |
Stress relieved | Compromise condition: keeps most of the cold-drawn strength while removing residual stress for straightness and safer bending. | 280 | 390 | 18 | 120 HB | — |
Cold drawn | Highest strength and best dimensional tolerance/surface — choose for hydraulic tube, shafts and machined parts where ductility is not needed. | 380 | 460 | 10 | 145 HB | — |
What is E195?
E195 (W.-Nr. 1.0034) is a low-carbon (≤0.13 % C) unalloyed engineering steel with a 195 MPa minimum yield strength, one step above E155 in the same bar and wire family. It is used for machined and cold-worked general engineering parts, with the default condition giving 230 MPa yield, 370 MPa tensile, 32 % elongation and 105 HB, and is available normalized, annealed, untreated, cold-drawn, light-cold-drawn and stress-relieved. Weldability (95) and formability (88) are high and machinability (62) is better than E155, but the steel has no corrosion resistance and limited load capacity. Move to E295 where higher strength is required. E195 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,495°C (2,723 °F). E195 has a yield strength of 230 MPa (33.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 370 MPa (53.7 ksi) — weaker than 97% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 32% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with E195
Is E195 easy to machine?
Cuts easily but is gummy — use sharp positive-rake tooling, high speed and generous coolant to avoid built-up edge; cold-drawn (+C) condition machines and chip-breaks noticeably better than annealed.
Can E195 be welded?
Excellent weldability by MIG/TIG/spot/resistance and brazing with CEV ≈0.25; no preheat or PWHT needed at normal thickness, use ER70S-type filler.
Can E195 be formed, bent or molded?
Very good cold formability in +A/+N/+LC — deep drawing, bending, flaring and roll forming are routine; hot forming 850–1050 °C followed by normalizing.

What surface finishes work on E195?
No inherent corrosion resistance — specify zinc or zinc-nickel plating, phosphate + oil, e-coat or powder paint; takes blackening and hard-chrome well, and can be case hardened (carburize/carbonitride) for wear surfaces.
