Working with S275J2
Is S275J2 easy to machine?
Machines like ordinary hot-rolled C-Mn steel (~65 % of AISI 1212); gummy chips in the as-rolled state — use positive-rake carbide, moderate speeds and good coolant.
Can S275J2 be welded?
Excellent weldability by SMAW/GMAW/SAW with low-hydrogen consumables; CEV ≈ 0.40 means little or no preheat below ~30 mm, preheat 100–150 °C for thick or restrained joints.
Can S275J2 be formed, bent or molded?
Readily cold-bent and press-braked (min bend radius ≈ 1–1.5 t transverse); hot forming at 900–1150 °C followed by normalizing restores toughness.
