What is 10G2S1?
10G2S1 is a higher-manganese GOST HSLA structural steel with about 1 % silicon, supplied hot-rolled, normalized, quenched-and-tempered, annealed or cold-drawn. Engineers specify it for cold-resistant welded structures and machinery in plate, section, bar and pipe-fitting form, where 360 MPa yield, 510 MPa tensile, 23 % elongation and 160 HB are required together with toughness down to -70 °C. Service temperature is capped near 400 °C and the steel has no inherent corrosion resistance, so coating is required. Weldability is good but slightly below 09G2S because of the higher Mn and Si; 09G2S or S355J2+N are the nearest alternatives. 10G2S1 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 10G2S1 has a yield strength of 360 MPa (52.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 510 MPa (74 ksi) — weaker than 72% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 23% and the elastic modulus is 206 GPa (29.9 Msi).

Working with 10G2S1
Is 10G2S1 easy to machine?
Machines like a 350 MPa-yield HSLA steel at ~55–60 % of AISI 1212; the ~1 % Si makes chips gummy, so use sharp coated carbide, positive rake and generous feed to avoid work hardening.
Can 10G2S1 be welded?
Weldable without restriction by MMA/MAG/SAW with low-hydrogen basic consumables; preheat 100–150 °C above ~30 mm or below 0 °C ambient and control interpass heat input to protect −70 °C toughness.
Can 10G2S1 be formed, bent or molded?
Good cold bending and press-braking with bend radii ≥2t; hot forming 850–1150 °C followed by normalizing restores toughness after heavy deformation.
