What is E295?
E295 (W.-Nr. 1.0050) is a low-carbon (≤0.20 % C) unalloyed general-purpose engineering steel with a 295 MPa minimum yield strength, supplied as bar, section and forging stock in as-rolled, normalized, annealed, cold-drawn, shear-cut and quenched-and-tempered conditions. It is chosen for moderately loaded, unwelded machine components that must machine cleanly, giving 305 MPa yield, 540 MPa tensile, 22 % elongation and 150 HB in the default condition with machinability rated 62. Carbon is not capped, so weldability (45) and cold formability (50) are limited compared with E195. Use E195 for welded or cold-formed parts. E295 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). E295 has a yield strength of 305 MPa (44.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 540 MPa (78.3 ksi) — weaker than 84% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with E295
Is E295 easy to machine?
Good general machinability at ~60 % of AISI 1212; turns and drills cleanly in normalized or cold-drawn condition, use carbide at 120–200 m/min with flood coolant.
Can E295 be welded?
Weldable only with care — carbon level is not capped, so preheat 100–200 °C, low-hydrogen electrodes and slow cooling are advised for sections above ~20 mm.
Can E295 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot forge/roll at 1100–850 °C; cold bending is limited (use generous bend radii ≥2t) and cold-drawn bar should be stress relieved before heavy machining.
