What is S275NL?
S275NL is the low-temperature grade of the S275 normalized fine-grain structural family to EN 10025-3 (1.0491), guaranteeing impact energy at sub-zero test temperatures down to −50 °C. Working with S275NL
Is S275NL easy to machine?
Machines like a normalized C-Mn steel (~68 % of AISI 1212): free-cutting is poor but chip control is good with sharp carbide tooling and moderate feeds; avoid smearing at low speeds.
Can S275NL be welded?
Excellent weldability with CEV ≤ 0.40 — SMAW/GMAW/SAW with basic low-hydrogen consumables matched to -50 °C toughness; preheat generally only for thick sections or high restraint per EN 1011-2.
Can S275NL be formed, bent or molded?
Good cold bending and rolling in the normalized state (typical bend radius 1.5–2×t); hot forming above 580 °C must be followed by re-normalizing to restore fine grain and low-temperature toughness.
