What is E335?
E335 (1.0060) is a medium-carbon unalloyed engineering steel in the EN 10025-2 non-alloy family, with up to 0.50 % C giving moderate hardenability and a 335 MPa minimum yield strength. Engineers choose it for machine parts that need more strength than a structural grade without alloy cost; it is stocked as hot-rolled, normalized, annealed and cold-drawn bar and can be supplied quenched and tempered to 200 HB or 28–38 HRC, or induction hardened to 52 HRC. In the default condition it gives 355 MPa yield, 620 MPa tensile, 18 % elongation and 180 HB. Weldability is limited by a CEV of roughly 0.55–0.65 and it has no corrosion resistance; step up to E360 when higher hardness and wear resistance are required. E335 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,420°C (2,588 °F). E335 has a yield strength of 355 MPa (51.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) — weaker than 73% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with E335
Is E335 easy to machine?
Machines well with carbide at ~120–180 m/min in the hot-rolled or annealed state; above 30 HRC drop speed and use rigid setups and coolant.
Can E335 be welded?
Weldable but crack-sensitive: CEV ≈ 0.55–0.65, so use low-hydrogen consumables, preheat 150–250 °C for t > 20 mm and consider post-weld stress relief at 550–650 °C.
Can E335 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot forge at 1100–850 °C then normalize; cold bending needs generous radii (≥3t) and is best done in the annealed condition.

What surface finishes work on E335?
No inherent corrosion resistance — phosphate + oil, zinc plating, hot-dip galvanizing (watch hydrogen embrittlement on hardened parts) or paint; polishes to a bright but non-durable finish.
