What is S355MC?
S355MC (Q355M equivalent) is a thermomechanically rolled micro-alloyed hot-rolled sheet and strip steel from the cold-forming MC family, with 400 MPa yield, 490 MPa tensile and 26 % elongation in the as-supplied M condition. Engineers use it where a formed part must carry load: it bends and roll-forms well (formability score 82) and welds with a low carbon equivalent (weldability score 92), and it is stocked as coil, sheet, pickled-and-oiled and slit strip. It has no corrosion resistance and must be coated, and hot forming would remove the rolled-in strength. S420MC or S460MC are the next strength steps. S355MC has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,470°C (2,678 °F). S355MC has a yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 490 MPa (71.1 ksi) — weaker than 60% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 26% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with S355MC
Is S355MC easy to machine?
Machines like low-carbon HSLA sheet — sharp positive-rake tools and generous coolant to avoid gummy chips and burrs; deburr laser/plasma cut edges before forming.
Can S355MC be welded?
Excellent weldability with low CEV; MAG, SAW, laser and resistance welding all suitable, typically no preheat below ~25 mm, use low-hydrogen consumables and control heat input to preserve HAZ toughness.
Can S355MC be formed, bent or molded?
Designed for cold forming: bend transverse to rolling direction where possible, minimum inside radius roughly 1.0–1.5× thickness, and allow for springback of the high-yield sheet.
