Working with CC383H-SR
Is CC383H easy to machine?
Gummy and work-hardening — use sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, rigid setups and generous coolant; rating ≈20 % of AISI 1212.
Can CC383H be welded?
Very good with GTAW/GMAW using ERCuNi (70/30) filler, no preheat, low interpass temperature, and iron/sulphur-free clean surfaces; Nb greatly reduces weld and repair cracking.
Can CC383H be formed, bent or molded?
Casting alloy only — long freezing range demands large risers, directional solidification and chilled sections; keep Pb/S contamination out of the melt to avoid hot tearing.
What surface finishes work on CC383H?
Normally supplied bare so the protective seawater film can develop; pickle/passivate after welding, avoid ferrous smearing, and use marine paint systems only where fouling control demands it.
