What is SGCC?
SGCC is the commercial-quality hot-dip galvanized sheet and coil grade of JIS G3302 — a low-carbon cold-rolled substrate continuously coated with pure zinc, the coating mass given by the suffix code (Z08, Z12, Z18, Z22, Z27). It is used where low-cost sacrificial rust protection plus good punching, shearing and spot welding matter: enclosures, appliance housings, ducting and brackets, at about 250 MPa yield, 330 MPa tensile and 33% elongation. Strength is only the 270 MPa class with no strict yield requirement, the coating fails quickly above 200 °C and in acids or alkalis, welding burns off zinc, and deep-draw formability is below SGCD/SGCE. SGCC has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,500°C (2,732 °F). SGCC has a yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) — weaker than 94% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 33% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).

Working with SGCC
Is SGCC easy to machine?
Rarely machined — punch, laser or plasma cut; use sharp tooling and light lubrication to avoid burrs and zinc pick-up, and expect zinc dust extraction on laser lines.
Can SGCC be welded?
Excellent resistance spot/seam weldability with ~20–30 % higher current and more frequent tip dressing; for MIG use ER70S-6 with wider gap/slower travel to vent zinc, ventilate for zinc-oxide fume, and re-protect welds with zinc-rich paint.
Can SGCC be formed, bent or molded?
Good bending, roll forming and shallow drawing (commercial quality only — use SGCD1/SGCE for deep draws); keep bend radii ≥1t and coating side outward, heavy Z27 coating can powder on tight bends.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit's quote engine applies to SGCC. Design inside these and the part quotes instantly; outside them it routes to an engineer.

What surface finishes work on SGCC?
Do not anodize; degrease and remove passivation oil, then phosphate or Cr-free pretreat before powder coat / PCM paint; cut edges self-heal only a few mm so paint or seal exposed edges in wet service.
