DX54D is supplied in 5 conditions, soft to hard. +Z is the default FabDigit quotes; the values on this page are for it.
Compare all 5 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
+ZDefault Hot-dip zinc coated (Z100–Z275), skin-passed | Standard stocked condition: pure-zinc hot-dip coating for painted or unpainted deep-drawn parts in mild corrosive service. | 170 | 300 | 40 | 90 HB | 11 % IACS |
Galvannealed zinc-iron alloy coating | Pick for best paint adhesion and resistance-spot-weldability (automotive body parts); coating is harder and more powdering-prone in severe draws. | 170 | 300 | 38 | 93 HB | 11 % IACS |
Zinc-magnesium-aluminium coating | Choose when equal corrosion life is needed at 2–3× lower coating weight, or for good cut-edge protection in outdoor/agricultural parts. | 170 | 300 | 40 | 90 HB | 11 % IACS |
55 % Al-Zn (aluzinc/galvalume) coating, AZ150/AZ185 | Pick for the longest atmospheric life and heat resistance up to ~300 °C (building panels, appliance backs); cut edges are less well protected than +Z. | 170 | 300 | 38 | 91 HB | 11 % IACS |
Zn-5 % Al (Galfan) coating, ZA095–ZA255 | Use when very severe forming plus better corrosion life than +Z is required — the Zn-5Al coating is ductile and resists powdering. | 170 | 300 | 40 | 90 HB | 11 % IACS |

What is DX54D?
DX54D is a European drawing-quality low-carbon sheet steel supplied with metallic coatings — +Z and +ZF zinc, +ZM zinc-magnesium, +AZ and +ZA zinc-aluminium, +AS aluminium-silicon — for corrosion-protected stampings. It is specified for severe deep drawing: 170 MPa yield, 300 MPa tensile, 40 % elongation, 45 HRB, r90 ≥ 1.6 and n90 ≥ 0.18, with non-ageing behaviour guaranteed for 6 months. Strength is low by design and service temperature is limited to about 200 °C, while zinc fume complicates arc welding despite good resistance-welding behaviour (score 85). SGHC or DX51D is the cheaper choice when forming demands are mild. DX54D has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,495°C (2,723 °F). DX54D has a yield strength of 170 MPa (24.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) — weaker than 99% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 40% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with DX54D
Is DX54D easy to machine?
Rarely machined; punching/blanking with sharp, well-clearanced tools is preferred since the soft, gummy sheet burrs and galls in drilling.
Can DX54D be welded?
Excellent for resistance spot, MAG (with zinc-tolerant transfer modes) and laser brazing; use higher current/electrode force than bare steel and extract zinc fume.
Can DX54D be formed, bent or molded?
Designed for severe deep drawing (r90 ≥ 1.6, n90 ≥ 0.18); use pre-oiled or chemically passivated + oiled coil, polished dies and avoid ageing-related stretcher strain (non-ageing guaranteed 6 months).
