What is SGCC-SP?
SGCC-SP is SGCC supplied in the SP condition — temper-rolled to flatten coating, suppress stretcher strain (Lüders) lines and set surface roughness for painting. SGCC-SP has a yield strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) and a tensile strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) — weaker than 93% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 32% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi). SGCC-SP has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,500°C (2,732 °F). HR is the default condition FabDigit quotes; SP is available on request or by drawing note.

Working with SGCC-SP
Is SGCC easy to machine?
Rarely machined — punch, laser or plasma cut; use sharp tooling and light lubrication to avoid burrs and zinc pick-up, and expect zinc dust extraction on laser lines.
Can SGCC be welded?
Excellent resistance spot/seam weldability with ~20–30 % higher current and more frequent tip dressing; for MIG use ER70S-6 with wider gap/slower travel to vent zinc, ventilate for zinc-oxide fume, and re-protect welds with zinc-rich paint.
Can SGCC be formed, bent or molded?
Good bending, roll forming and shallow drawing (commercial quality only — use SGCD1/SGCE for deep draws); keep bend radii ≥1t and coating side outward, heavy Z27 coating can powder on tight bends.
What surface finishes work on SGCC?
Do not anodize; degrease and remove passivation oil, then phosphate or Cr-free pretreat before powder coat / PCM paint; cut edges self-heal only a few mm so paint or seal exposed edges in wet service.

SGCC-SP — frequently asked
What is SGCC-SP used for?
SGCC-SP is typically used for electrical enclosures and cabinets, appliance housings and panels, HVAC ventilation ductwork, brackets and mounting plates, roof decking and industrial siding. In short: galvanized commercial coil.
What is the yield strength of SGCC-SP?
SGCC-SP has a typical yield strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) and a tensile strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) — weaker than 93% of steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.
Is SGCC-SP easy to machine?
Yes — machinability is rated very good (72/100, better than 97% of steel grades). Rarely machined — punch, laser or plasma cut; use sharp tooling and light lubrication to avoid burrs and zinc pick-up, and expect zinc dust extraction on laser lines.
Can SGCC-SP be welded?

What is the maximum service temperature of SGCC-SP?
SGCC-SP is rated for continuous use to about 200°C (392 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
What is the difference between SGCC-HR and SGCC-CR?
HR is the default condition — hot-rolled pickled substrate used for thicker galvanized coil (JIS designates it SGHC); pick for >2 mm ducting and structural brackets where surface finish is secondary. CR: the annealed cold-rolled substrate SGCC is made from; quoted when the coating is stripped, laser-cut edges dominate, or SPCC-equivalent base properties are needed. Yield strength is 250 MPa in HR versus 210 MPa in CR.
