What is DC05?

DC05 (1.0312/1.0389, SPCE) is a deep-drawing low-carbon cold-rolled sheet steel in the EN 10130 family, softer and more formable than DC04 with a formability score of 97. It is supplied as cold-rolled coil and sheet, including electro-galvanized (+ZE) versions, at 160 MPa yield, 300 MPa tensile, 42% elongation and 85 HB, and is rated to about 300 °C. Corrosion resistance is nil (score 10), so it must be oiled for storage and then coated. DC04 is the cheaper choice when the draw is less severe. DC05 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,480°C (2,696 °F). DC05 has a yield strength of 160 MPa (23.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) — weaker than 99% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 42% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with DC05

Is DC05 easy to machine?

Soft and gummy — use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and generous coolant to avoid burrs and built-up edge; mostly blanked/pierced rather than machined.

Can DC05 be welded?

Excellent for resistance spot, MAG and laser welding with no preheat; on +ZE grades increase current/electrode maintenance and ventilate zinc fume.

Can DC05 be formed, bent or molded?

Designed for severe deep drawing and stretch forming (r90 ≈ 2.0, n90 ≈ 0.21); form within a few months of delivery and use non-ageing (ULC/IF-type) stock to avoid Lüders stretcher strains.

What surface finishes work on DC05?

Must be protected: oiling for storage, then zinc phosphate + e-coat, powder paint, or electro/hot-dip zinc; takes plating and painting readily with a smooth skin-passed surface.
