What is DC03?

DC03 (1.0347, SPCD) is a low-carbon cold-rolled sheet steel to the EN 10130 family for cold forming, with better ductility than DC01 and drawing capability between DC01 and DC04. It is supplied as skin-passed or annealed coil and sheet, electro-galvanized (+ZE) and in enamelling quality (EK), at 195 MPa yield, 310 MPa tensile, 38% elongation and 95 HB (55 HRB). Corrosion resistance is essentially nil (score 10), so bare sheet rusts within days and must be coated. Move to DC04 or DC05 when the draw is deeper. DC03 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,490°C (2,714 °F). DC03 has a yield strength of 195 MPa (28.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi) — weaker than 99% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 38% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with DC03

Is DC03 easy to machine?

Soft and gummy — use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and coolant to avoid built-up edge and burrs; ideal for punching/blanking rather than turning.

Can DC03 be welded?

Excellent with resistance spot, MAG, laser and brazing; carbon equivalent is very low so no preheat or PWHT is required (remove zinc coating fumes on +ZE).

Can DC03 be formed, bent or molded?

Designed for deep drawing (r90 ≥ 1.3, n90 ≥ 0.18); use non-skin-passed material promptly to avoid stretcher strains and keep draw radii ≥ 5t for cylindrical cups.
