What is DD11?
DD11 (1.0332) is a general-purpose hot-rolled low-carbon mild steel to the EN 10111 DD family, supplied for cold forming rather than to a strength class. It is the economical base grade for simple bends, roll-formed sections and moderate stampings, available as hot-rolled coil and sheet, pickled and oiled (HRPO), skin-passed, slit strip and normalised material. Strength is modest (220 MPa yield, 380 MPa tensile) and formability is limited compared with cold-rolled grades; bare surface has essentially no corrosion resistance. For deeper draws move to DD12/DD13 or a cold-rolled DC grade. DD11 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,490°C (2,714 °F). DD11 has a yield strength of 220 MPa (31.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) — weaker than 98% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 32% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with DD11
Is DD11 easy to machine?
Soft and gummy — use sharp positive-rake tools, generous feed and coolant to avoid built-up edge and burrs; expect ~60 % of AISI 1212 speeds.
Can DD11 be welded?
Excellent for MIG/MAG, TIG, resistance spot and laser welding with ER70S-6 class filler; CEV ≈0.20–0.25 so no preheat needed at typical sheet gauges.
Can DD11 be formed, bent or molded?
Good for bending, roll forming and moderate stamping (bend radius ≈1×t transverse); for deep drawing step up to DD12/DD13 or a cold-rolled DC grade.

What surface finishes work on DD11?
No anodizing; protect by painting, powder coating, zinc phosphating, electro-zinc or hot-dip galvanizing — bare surface rusts within days in humid air.
