| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
+ZDefault Hot-dip zinc coated (Z100–Z275), skin-passed, chemically… | Default automotive/appliance choice: best combination of deep drawability and sacrificial corrosion protection. | 150 | 300 | 42 | 85 HB | 11 % IACS |
Hot-dip Zn-5%Al (Galfan) coating | Choose for tighter bends and better cut-edge/atmospheric corrosion life than plain +Z at equal coating mass. | 150 | 300 | 42 | 85 HB | 11 % IACS |
Galvannealed zinc-iron alloy coating | Pick when the part is painted/e-coated and spot-welded in high volume — matte Fe-Zn layer gives superior paint adhesion and electrode life. | 155 | 305 | 40 | 90 HB | 11 % IACS |
Hot-dip 55%Al-Zn (Aluzinc/Galvalume) coating | Use where long atmospheric life and heat reflectivity matter more than cut-edge sacrificial protection. | 155 | 305 | 40 | 88 HB | 11 % IACS |

What is DX56D?
DX56D is an extra-deep-drawing quality ultra-low-carbon steel sheet supplied with metallic coatings in the EN 10346 family (+Z hot-dip zinc, +ZF galvannealed, +ZA zinc-aluminium, +AZ aluminium-zinc, +AS aluminium-silicon). Engineers specify it where draw depth governs: 150 MPa yield, 300 MPa tensile, 42 % elongation, r90 ≥ 1.9 and n90 ≥ 0.21, delivered as coil, slit strip and blanks. It is a forming grade rather than a structural one, its corrosion resistance (score 45) comes only from the coating, and service is limited to about 200 °C. Where the draw is less severe, DX54D or DC04 is the cheaper choice. DX56D has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,500°C (2,732 °F). DX56D has a yield strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) — weaker than 100% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 42% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with DX56D
Is DX56D easy to machine?
Rarely machined; ultra-low-carbon sheet is gummy — use sharp, high-rake tools, positive shear-angle blanking dies and keep die clearance ~6–8% of thickness to limit burr.
Can DX56D be welded?
Excellent for resistance spot/seam welding with increased current and electrode force to cope with the zinc layer; MIG-brazing with CuSi3 minimises coating burn-off, and fume extraction is required.
Can DX56D be formed, bent or molded?
Designed for severe deep drawing/stretch forming (r90≥1.9, n90≥0.21) with minimal springback; avoid over-aging by using within the mill's non-ageing shelf life and keep drawbead pressure moderate to prevent coating powdering.

What surface finishes work on DX56D?
Take as-coated with passivation/oil, or phosphate + e-coat/powder paint (+ZF gives the best paint key); never anodize — repair cut edges and welds with zinc-rich primer.
