What is G17CrMo9-10?
G17CrMo9-10 (1.7379) is a 2.25Cr-1Mo cast alloy steel equivalent to ASTM A217 Gr. WC9, the mainstream creep-resistant casting grade for power and process plant. Typical tempered properties are 340 MPa yield, 570 MPa tensile, 22 % elongation and about 180 HB, with service to 550 °C, supplied as sand or investment castings for valve bodies and pressure fittings. It requires 200–250 °C preheat and 690–740 °C post-weld heat treatment, and it has no corrosion resistance bare. For hotter service or higher creep strength, GX15CrMo9-1 (C12) is the next step. G17CrMo9-10 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). G17CrMo9-10 has a yield strength of 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 570 MPa (82.7 ksi) — weaker than 76% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).
