What is A352 Grade LCC?

ASTM A352 Grade LCC is a carbon-manganese steel casting (UNS J02505) used for general pressure-containing parts in moderately low-temperature service down to about -50 °F. In the default N+T condition it gives 315 MPa yield, 520 MPa tensile, 25% elongation and about 150 HB, with the best machinability (58) and weldability (78) in the A352 family and a maximum service temperature of 425 °C. It is the low-cost baseline grade: no nickel, no corrosion resistance, and it must be coated for wet or marine service. Below -46 °C, step up to nickel grades LC2 or LC3. A352 Grade LCC has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). A352 Grade LCC has a yield strength of 315 MPa (45.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) — weaker than 82% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 202 GPa (29.3 Msi).

Working with A352 Grade LCC

Is A352 Grade LCC easy to machine?

Machines like normalized 1025–1030 steel at ~60 % of AISI 1212; use rigid setups and expect scale/sand inclusions on the first cut of unmachined cast surfaces.

Can A352 Grade LCC be welded?

P-No.1 material — readily welded with E7018/ER70S-x, preheat 50–150 °C on heavy sections and stress relieve at 595–650 °C; weld repairs must be requalified for −46 °C Charpy.

Can A352 Grade LCC be formed, bent or molded?

Sand-cast in green sand or no-bake molds with generous risering (long freezing range, ~2 % solidification shrinkage); avoid abrupt section changes to limit hot tears and shrinkage porosity.
