What is ZG35CrMo?
ZG35CrMo is a quenched-and-tempered chromium-molybdenum cast steel, the cast equivalent of wrought 35CrMo and cross-referenced to ASTM A217 WC6. In the default Q&T condition it offers 570 MPa yield, 760 MPa tensile, 14 % elongation and 240 HB (23 HRC) with service to 450 °C, which suits medium-to-heavy load-bearing castings such as housings and supports. Weldability is limited (40/100) and machinability moderate (45/100), so preheat and post-weld tempering are required and corrosion protection must be coated on. Where higher strength and hardenability are needed, step up to ZG42CrMo. ZG35CrMo has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). ZG35CrMo has a yield strength of 570 MPa (82.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) — stronger than 74% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 14% and the elastic modulus is 208 GPa (30.2 Msi).

Working with ZG35CrMo
Is ZG35CrMo easy to machine?
Machine in the annealed or N+T condition where possible; at 217–269 HB use rigid setups, carbide tooling and moderate speeds, and allow for hard scale/skin on unblasted castings.
Can ZG35CrMo be welded?
Weld with low-hydrogen Cr-Mo consumables (e.g. E8018-B2), preheat 250–350 °C, maintain interpass temperature, and post-weld temper below the original tempering temperature.
Can ZG35CrMo be formed, bent or molded?
Sand-cast with generous risering and 2–2.5 % shrinkage allowance; avoid hot tears at section changes and always heat treat to break up the as-cast structure.
