What is 1.4724?
1.4724 (X10CrAlSi13) is a 13% Cr Fe-Cr-Al-Si ferritic heat-resisting steel whose higher chromium gives better oxidation resistance than the 7% Cr grade 1.4713, with a stated service limit of 850 °C. It is used for exhaust and heater hardware where scaling resistance matters more than strength, and is available annealed (+A, +A+P), as 1D, 2B and 2D sheet, cold-drawn bar (+C), annealed tube and stress-relieved forms. Typical values are 300 MPa yield, 560 MPa tensile, 20% elongation and 180 HB. Formability is low (score 50), welds need preheat and post-weld annealing, and aqueous corrosion resistance is modest; 1.4736 serves above 850 °C. 1.4724 has a density of 7.6 g/cm³ (0.275 lb/in³), lighter than 98% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 1.4724 has a yield strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) — weaker than 68% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 220 GPa (31.9 Msi).

Working with 1.4724
Is 1.4724 easy to machine?
Machines like a soft ferritic stainless — rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, moderate speeds and heavy feeds to avoid work hardening and the gummy Al-bearing chip.
Can 1.4724 be welded?
Weldable by TIG/MIG/SMAW with preheat 150–300 °C, low heat input and post-weld anneal ~750–800 °C; use matching Cr-Al filler or 309/310-type austenitic consumables where ductile welds are required, as the HAZ coarsens and embrittles.
Can 1.4724 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms with generous bend radii (≥2t) at moderate ductility; warm forming 150–300 °C helps for severe bends, hot working range roughly 1100–800 °C with slow cooling.
