What is ER430LNb?
ER430LNb is a low-carbon, niobium-stabilized ferritic stainless filler wire in the 430 family, with the Nb addition tying up carbon to reduce sensitization. It deposits more ductile weld metal than plain ER430 — about 380 MPa yield, 520 MPa tensile, 24% elongation and 185 HB (90 HRB) — and is supplied as cold-drawn wire for welding stabilized ferritic sheet in appliance and automotive trim. Oxidation service reaches about 815 °C, but toughness stays below austenitic fillers and heavier sections need preheat and low heat input. ER430 is the unstabilized alternative. ER430LNb has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). ER430LNb has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) — stronger than 52% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 24% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with ER430LNb
Is ER430LNb easy to machine?
Weld deposits machine like Type 430 — moderate rates, sharp carbide tools, positive rake and rigid setup to avoid work-hardened smearing.
Can ER430LNb be welded?
Use GTAW/GMAW with Ar or Ar+2%O2/CO2-lean mixes, low heat input, interpass ≤150 °C; preheat 100–200 °C on sections over ~5 mm to avoid coarse-grain brittleness.
Can ER430LNb be formed, bent or molded?
Weld metal has lower ductility than the ferritic base; keep bend radii generous or anneal at 760–815 °C before severe forming.
