What is S44625?

S44625 is a 26Cr-1Mo titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless with good chloride pitting resistance, positioned below the super-ferritic E-Brite grade in purity and cost. It is used for heat-exchanger and chemical process tube and sheet in ANN, 2B cold-rolled, HRAP, cold-drawn and annealed tube conditions; annealed values are 380 MPa yield, 500 MPa tensile, 28 % elongation and 175 HB (88 HRB), with a corrosion score of 74. Formability is limited (60) and HAZ grain growth plus interstitial pickup restrict it to thin gauge, so choose 316L or duplex 2205 for heavy welded sections. S44625 has a density of 7.67 g/cm³ (0.277 lb/in³), lighter than 95% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). S44625 has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) — stronger than 52% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 28% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Chemical & Environmental3

Corrosion resistance is very good (74/100), better than 78% of stainless steel grades.

Galvanic Potential (seawater, vs SCE)-0.1 V
Corrosion ResistanceVery good74/100
Chemical Resistance SummaryExcellent resistance to chloride pitting/crevice attack and essentially immune to chloride SCC; good in organic acids, nitric acid, caustic and cooling/brine waters. Attacked by hot reducing acids (HCl, dilute H2SO4) and by strong halide acids; avoid interstitial pickup (C/N) which destroys intergranular resistance.

Working with S44625

Is S44625 easy to machine?

Machines like a gummy ferritic — use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy feeds and generous coolant; expect ~half the rate of 12L14.

Can S44625 be welded?

Autogenous GTAW/plasma or matching low-interstitial filler with very low heat input and rigorous Ar shielding/backing; grain growth and interstitial pickup in the HAZ are the main risks — no preheat, keep interpass low.

Can S44625 be formed, bent or molded?

Cold forms and roll-forms adequately in thin gauge with generous bend radii (≥1t) and allowance for springback; avoid severe deep drawing and forming below ~15 °C.

What surface finishes work on S44625?

Passivate per ASTM A967 (nitric or citric) or electropolish after pickling; not anodizable, and the ferritic structure takes a good but slightly duller polish than austenitics.

Surface treatments FabDigit runs on stainless steel parts — pick them in the quote configurator or call them out on the drawing. Each links to its datasheet in the surface-finish library (thickness, specs, call-out, material verdicts).

How much does S44625 cost?

S44625 is a high-cost stainless steel ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.

S44625 has a typical yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) — stronger than 52% of stainless steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 3 listed tempers.

Is S44625 easy to machine?

Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (48/100, better than 88% of stainless steel grades). Machines like a gummy ferritic — use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy feeds and generous coolant; expect ~half the rate of 12L14.

Can S44625 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (55/100). Autogenous GTAW/plasma or matching low-interstitial filler with very low heat input and rigorous Ar shielding/backing; grain growth and interstitial pickup in the HAZ are the main risks — no preheat, keep interpass low.
