What is 1.4630?
1.4630 (X2CrSiTi15) is a titanium-stabilized 15% Cr ferritic stainless with a silicon addition that raises oxidation resistance and keeps welds free of sensitization in mildly corrosive service. It is used where a nickel-free, low-cost stainless must be welded in thin gauge and see moderate heat, and is stocked as annealed and bright-annealed sheet (A, 2R), hot-rolled 1D, cold-drawn and hard-temper bar or strip (CD, 2H) and as-welded tube (AW). Typical values are 300 MPa yield, 460 MPa tensile, 28% elongation, 155 HB (82 HRB) and service to 850 °C. At 15% Cr, corrosion resistance and formability (score 70) sit below 18% Cr grades; 1.4510 (439) is the nearest alternative. 1.4630 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 1.4630 has a yield strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 460 MPa (66.7 ksi) — weaker than 68% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 28% and the elastic modulus is 220 GPa (31.9 Msi).

Working with 1.4630
Is 1.4630 easy to machine?
Soft and gummy: use sharp positive-rake carbide, rigid setups, heavy feeds and flood coolant to avoid built-up edge; rates roughly half of 12L14.
Can 1.4630 be welded?
Readily GTAW/GMAW/laser welded in thin gauges with low heat input and Ar/Ar-He shielding; Ti stabilization avoids sensitization, but keep interpass heat low to limit HAZ grain coarsening — use 430Ti/439 or austenitic 308L/309L filler.
Can 1.4630 be formed, bent or molded?
Good roll-forming, bending and moderate deep drawing with low springback and no work-hardening spike; avoid sharp bends transverse to rolling in heavy gauge and preheat to ~100 °C for severe cold bends.
