What is E430?
E430 is a straight-chromium ferritic stainless electrode (W43010, E430-16 to GB/T 983) matching Type 430 base metal, supplied in -15, -16, -17, -25 and -26 coatings with as-welded and PWHT deposit data. It is used for mild-corrosive decorative and appliance work where colour match to 430 sheet and moderate corrosion resistance matter. Typical deposit values are 400 MPa yield, 520 MPa tensile and 22 % elongation, with service to 800 °C. The as-welded joint contains hard martensite and coarse ferrite, so preheat and a 760–790 °C anneal are normally required; E430Nb is the stabilized alternative when intergranular corrosion is a concern. E430 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). E430 has a yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) — stronger than 57% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with E430
Is E430 easy to machine?
Weld deposit machines like annealed Type 430 (~50 % of 1212) after PWHT; in the as-welded state hard martensitic HAZ dulls tools — anneal first.
Can E430 be welded?
Preheat 150–260 °C, keep interpass moderate, use short arc and stringer beads, then anneal 760–790 °C and furnace cool; redry electrodes 250–300 °C before use.
Can E430 be formed, bent or molded?
Deposited joints tolerate only limited cold forming; ferritic weld metal is notch-sensitive at room temperature so avoid bending as-welded.
