What is E80C-Ni2?

E80C-Ni2 is a nominal 2 % nickel composite metal-cored electrode in the low-alloy flux-cored filler family, formulated for better toughness at lower service temperatures than the Ni1 grade. It is used on low-alloy structural, offshore and pipeline steels, depositing 520 MPa yield, 620 MPa tensile, 26 % elongation and about 190 HB (92 HRB) with service to 400 °C. Wire must be stored or re-baked dry and interpass held at 150–250 °C to limit hydrogen cracking, and the deposit has no more corrosion resistance than the base steel. E80C-Ni3 is the next step for arctic-grade toughness. E80C-Ni2 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). E80C-Ni2 has a yield strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) — stronger than 67% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 26% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).
