What is E80C-B8?
E80C-B8 is a 9Cr-1Mo composite metal-cored electrode in the low-alloy flux-cored filler family, used where creep strength at high temperature governs the joint design. Deposits give 505 MPa yield, 620 MPa tensile, 22 % elongation and about 200 HB (93 HRB), with service to 600 °C on 9Cr-1Mo boiler tubing and superheater piping. Preheat of 200–300 °C and a mandatory PWHT at 730–760 °C for 1 h per 25 mm are required, and as-welded martensite near 40 HRC is difficult to machine. Ambient corrosion resistance is low (score 32); E80C-B6 covers lighter 5Cr-0.5Mo service. E80C-B8 has a density of 7.78 g/cm³ (0.281 lb/in³), lighter than 91% of steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). E80C-B8 has a yield strength of 505 MPa (73.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) — stronger than 64% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 213 GPa (30.9 Msi).

Working with E80C-B8
Is E80C-B8 easy to machine?
Machine only after PWHT (~200 HB); as-welded martensite at ~40 HRC needs carbide tooling, low speed and rigid setups.
Can E80C-B8 be welded?
Preheat 200–300 °C, interpass ≤ 350 °C, cool to 80–150 °C before a mandatory 730–760 °C / 1 h per 25 mm PWHT; use 75–80 %Ar/CO₂ or CO₂ per the classification and keep the wire dry.
Can E80C-B8 be formed, bent or molded?
Deposited metal is not intended for cold forming; any bending of welded assemblies should be done after PWHT with generous radii.
