What is E70C-B2L?
E70C-B2L (UNS W52130) is a low-carbon 1.25Cr-0.5Mo composite cored electrode in the AWS low-alloy Cr-Mo filler family, depositing 455 MPa yield and 550 MPa tensile metal with 25 % elongation. It is used for Cr-Mo alloy piping and pressure vessels in petrochemical and power service, where the reduced carbon lowers as-welded hardness and cracking risk; supplied as spooled cored wire and available in AW and PWHT-690 or PWHT-705LT conditions. Service is limited to about 540 °C, PWHT is normally required for code work, and the deposit has no atmospheric corrosion resistance. E80C-B2 is the standard-carbon option when higher strength is needed. E70C-B2L has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,470°C (2,678 °F). E70C-B2L has a yield strength of 455 MPa (66 ksi) and a tensile strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) — stronger than 54% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).

Working with E70C-B2L
Is E70C-B2L easy to machine?
Machine weld caps after PWHT (~170 HB) with carbide tooling; as-welded bainitic deposits are harder and abrasive on HSS.
Can E70C-B2L be welded?
GMAW/FCAW with Ar-CO₂ (75–80/20–25) or CO₂, DCEP; preheat 150–250 °C, interpass ≤ 300 °C, and PWHT at 675–705 °C for code work — keep hydrogen low and store wire dry.
Can E70C-B2L be formed, bent or molded?
Not a formable product; deposit is applied as weld metal — control bead sequence and heat input to limit distortion and coarse-grain HAZ.
