What is E80C-B3L?
E80C-B3L (UNS W53130) is a low-carbon 2.25Cr-1Mo composite cored electrode for high-temperature Cr-Mo piping and vessels, depositing 510 MPa yield and 610 MPa tensile metal with 24 % elongation and about 185 HB (90 HRB) after PWHT. The reduced carbon lowers hardenability and cracking risk, which suits thick reactor sections and hydrogen service; supplied as spooled cored wire in AW, PWHT-690 and PWHT-730 conditions. Service is limited to about 550 °C, PWHT is required for ASME work, and the deposit offers no atmospheric corrosion resistance. E80C-B2 is the 1.25Cr-0.5Mo alternative for lower-temperature lines. E80C-B3L has a density of 7.8 g/cm³ (0.282 lb/in³), lighter than 87% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). E80C-B3L has a yield strength of 510 MPa (74 ksi) and a tensile strength of 610 MPa (88.5 ksi) — stronger than 65% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 24% and the elastic modulus is 207 GPa (30 Msi).

Working with E80C-B3L
Is E80C-B3L easy to machine?
PWHT weld metal machines like normalized-and-tempered 2.25Cr-1Mo; as-welded beads at 260+ HB dull carbide quickly, so machine after stress relief.
Can E80C-B3L be welded?
FCAW/GMAW with 75-80% Ar / balance CO2 (or CO2 for some formulations); preheat and interpass 150–250 °C, low-hydrogen practice, and PWHT at 690–730 °C per ASME code.
Can E80C-B3L be formed, bent or molded?
Not a wrought product — deposit shape is controlled by joint design, stringer beads and controlled heat input (typically 1.0–2.0 kJ/mm).
