What is ER110S-1?
ER110S-1 is a higher-alloyed Mn-Ni-Mo solid welding wire, UNS K21015, for GMAW and GTAW of quenched-and-tempered steels such as HY-110. It delivers roughly 110 ksi tensile weld metal — 730 MPa yield, 815 MPa tensile, 19 % elongation and 250 HB (24 HRC) — and is supplied as copper-coated drawn wire on layer-wound spools. The higher strength comes with lower elongation and tighter procedure limits: low hydrogen, preheat and restricted heat input are needed to keep toughness and avoid cold cracking, with service capped at 400 °C. Where 100 ksi weld metal is sufficient, ER100S-1 is more forgiving. ER110S-1 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,460°C (2,660 °F). ER110S-1 has a yield strength of 730 MPa (106 ksi) and a tensile strength of 815 MPa (118 ksi) — stronger than 83% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 19% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).

Working with ER110S-1
Is ER110S-1 easy to machine?
Weld deposit machines like a 700–800 MPa Q&T low-alloy steel — use carbide, moderate speeds and rigid setups; expect hardness spikes near the fusion line.
Can ER110S-1 be welded?
Run GMAW with Ar + 5–25 % CO₂ (or Ar-2%O₂) or GTAW with pure Ar; keep hydrogen low, preheat/interpass per steel thickness (typically 100–150 °C) and limit heat input to ~2.0 kJ/mm to protect toughness.
Can ER110S-1 be formed, bent or molded?
Supplied as copper-coated drawn wire on layer-wound spools; ensure smooth liner and correct drive-roll pressure to avoid coating flake and birdnesting.
