What is 13CrMo4-5?
13CrMo4-5 (1.7335, 13CrMo44, A335 P12) is a low-alloy 1Cr-0.5Mo creep-resisting steel for elevated-temperature pressure piping and boiler components, supplied to EN 10216-2/10273 in +N, +NT, +QT and +A conditions. Engineers specify it for stable strength and creep behaviour up to 550 °C — 340 MPa yield, 500 MPa tensile, 24 % elongation, 155 HB and 42 W/m·K — in seamless tube, pipe, plate and forged fittings. Corrosion resistance is minimal (score 14), so surfaces need coating or insulation, and welding requires preheat plus post-weld heat treatment. For hotter or more highly stressed service move up to 10CrMo9-10 or a 9Cr grade. 13CrMo4-5 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 13CrMo4-5 has a yield strength of 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) — weaker than 76% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 24% and the elastic modulus is 212 GPa (30.7 Msi).

Working with 13CrMo4-5
Is 13CrMo4-5 easy to machine?
Machines like a medium-carbon alloy steel (~60 % of 1212): rigid setups, carbide tooling, moderate speeds and generous coolant; annealed or +NT stock cuts best.
Can 13CrMo4-5 be welded?
Very weldable with matched 1Cr-0.5Mo consumables (E8018-B2 / ER80S-B2), preheat 150–250 °C, interpass control and PWHT 680–720 °C to soften the HAZ and restore creep ductility.
Can 13CrMo4-5 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot forming 850–1050 °C followed by re-normalizing and tempering; cold tube bending is routine but heavily cold-worked areas should be stress relieved.
