What is 11CrMo9-10?
11CrMo9-10 (1.7383, A182 F22) is the forging grade of the 2.25 % Cr–1 % Mo heat-resistant family, supplied as flanges, valve bodies and heavy forgings in +A, +N, +NT, +QT and a hardness-controlled +QT-NACE condition for sour service. Typical properties are 360 MPa yield, 580 MPa tensile, 22 % elongation and about 175 HB (88 HRB), with service to roughly 550 °C. Welding (score 55) requires preheat, low-hydrogen practice and PWHT, machinability is moderate (55), and corrosion resistance is low (18) so wetted surfaces are usually coated or clad. 10CrMo9-10 covers the same chemistry in tube and pipe form. 11CrMo9-10 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). 11CrMo9-10 has a yield strength of 360 MPa (52.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 580 MPa (84.1 ksi) — weaker than 72% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with 11CrMo9-10
Is 11CrMo9-10 easy to machine?
Machines like 4140-class Cr-Mo at ~55 % of 1212; use rigid setups, coated carbide, 100–160 m/min in the +NT condition and expect higher tool wear after Q&T.
Can 11CrMo9-10 be welded?
Weld with matching 2.25Cr-1Mo consumables (E9018-B3 / ER90S-B3), preheat 200–250 °C, interpass ≤ 350 °C and PWHT 690–730 °C; control hydrogen and J/X factors to avoid reheat and temper embrittlement.
Can 11CrMo9-10 be formed, bent or molded?
Forge at 1050–1200 °C with slow cooling; cold forming is limited — bend or flange hot, then re-normalize and temper.
