What is B1500HS?
B1500HS is a proprietary boron-manganese hot-stamping steel supplied in a soft, formable condition (380 MPa yield, 570 MPa tensile, 17% elongation, about 170 HB / 87 HRB) and press-hardened in the die to roughly 1500 MPa tensile strength in the finished part. It is used to cut mass from safety-critical body structures and is available as bare cold-rolled coil, Al-Si coated coil (CR-AS) and hot-stamped or hot-stamped and shot-blasted parts (HS, HS-SZ). Final geometry can only be produced by hot stamping with die quenching, post-hardening ductility is low, and bare material has the corrosion resistance of plain carbon steel. Cold-formed martensitic sheet such as MS1500 is the alternative where no hot-stamping line is available. B1500HS has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,490°C (2,714 °F). B1500HS has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 570 MPa (82.7 ksi) — weaker than 68% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 17% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with B1500HS
Is B1500HS easy to machine?
Soft CR condition machines like ordinary C-Mn sheet; after press hardening (≈480 HV) use laser cutting or CBN/carbide with rigid setups — mechanical trimming causes rapid tool wear and edge cracking.
Can B1500HS be welded?
Resistance spot welding is the production route (Al-Si coating needs higher current/longer weld time); avoid heat inputs that temper the martensite and watch HAZ softening in laser welding.
Can B1500HS be formed, bent or molded?
Cold form only in the as-delivered state; final geometry is made by hot stamping at 900–950 °C austenitizing with die quench at >27 °C/s cooling for full martensite.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit applies to B1500HS. Every B1500HS part is priced by an engineer; design inside these and the quote comes back without a redesign loop.

What surface finishes work on B1500HS?
Al-Si coated parts go straight to phosphate-free pretreatment and cathodic e-coat; bare hot-stamped parts must be shot-blasted to remove scale then coated, and delayed hydrogen cracking risk limits acid pickling and electroplating.
