What is HC300LA?

HC300LA is a European cold-rolled micro-alloyed HSLA sheet steel with a 300 MPa minimum yield, available bare (CR, pickled and oiled) or coated as +ZE, +Z, +ZF, +ZM and +AS. Default-condition properties are 335 MPa yield, 420 MPa tensile, 28 % elongation and 130 HB, supplied as coil, strip and blanks for stamped structural parts. It trades formability for strength (formability score 68 against 70 for HC260LA), shows noticeably higher springback than mild steel, and bare sheet has almost no corrosion resistance (score 10); service is rated to 300 °C. Use HC260LA where the part draws deeper. HC300LA has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,495°C (2,723 °F). HC300LA has a yield strength of 335 MPa (48.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 420 MPa (60.9 ksi) — weaker than 77% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 28% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with HC300LA

Is HC300LA easy to machine?

Rarely machined as sheet; blanking, laser and fine-piercing are preferred — allow larger punch clearance and expect higher blanking loads than DC04.

Can HC300LA be welded?

Excellent for resistance spot, MAG and laser welding thanks to low carbon and CEV; zinc-coated variants need ventilation, higher weld current and gap control.

Can HC300LA be formed, bent or molded?

Good deep-draw and stretch behaviour (n90 ≥ 0.16) but noticeably higher springback than mild steel — compensate die radii and use overbend/post-stretch.

What surface finishes work on HC300LA?

Bare sheet must be phosphated and e-coated or painted quickly; zinc coatings (+ZE/+Z/+ZF/+ZM) take standard automotive paint systems and are readily adhesive-bonded.

Surface treatments FabDigit runs on steel parts — pick them in the quote configurator or call them out on the drawing. Each links to its datasheet in the surface-finish library (thickness, specs, call-out, material verdicts).

How much does HC300LA cost?

HC300LA is a budget-cost steel ($), cheaper than about 90% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
