What is MS1300?

MS1300 is a fully martensitic cold-rolled sheet steel from the advanced high-strength sheet family, strengthened by rapid quenching to a martensitic microstructure rather than by a dual-phase or partitioned structure. It reaches 1150 MPa yield and 1380 MPa tensile strength at about 43 HRC and is supplied as cold-rolled, tempered (CR-TEMPERED) and zinc-coated coil (GI, GA, EG) for roll-formed anti-intrusion parts. Elongation is only 5 %, so parts must be straight or single-curvature; corrosion resistance is that of plain carbon steel and service is limited to roughly 200 °C. Where more ductility is needed at similar strength, QP1180 or a DP1180 grade is the usual substitute. MS1300 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,450°C (2,642 °F). MS1300 has a yield strength of 1,150 MPa (167 ksi) and a tensile strength of 1,380 MPa (200 ksi) — stronger than 94% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 5% and the elastic modulus is 207 GPa (30 Msi).

Working with MS1300

Is MS1300 easy to machine?

At about 43 HRC conventional punching and machining tools wear extremely fast; laser cutting or high-strength punch materials are preferred. If punching, use generous die clearance and watch sheared-edge crack sensitivity.

Can MS1300 be welded?

Resistance spot welding and laser welding are both usable, but HAZ tempering softens the martensite so joint strength falls below the base metal. Limit heat input, control the welding current profile, and take precautions against hydrogen-induced delayed cracking.

Can MS1300 be formed, bent or molded?

With 3–6 % elongation the grade is limited to roll forming and simple bends; bend radii are normally ≥3–4× material thickness and larger transverse to the rolling direction. Springback is large and requires overbend compensation; deep drawing is not feasible.

What surface finishes work on MS1300?

Corrosion protection is normally zinc coating (GI/GA/EG) plus phosphate and cataphoretic e-coat. Avoid acid pickling and conventional electroplating, which charge hydrogen into the steel; if plating is unavoidable, bake immediately after plating to remove hydrogen.

Surface treatments FabDigit runs on steel parts — pick them in the quote configurator or call them out on the drawing. Each links to its datasheet in the surface-finish library (thickness, specs, call-out, material verdicts).

How much does MS1300 cost?

MS1300 is a budget-cost steel ($), cheaper than about 90% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
