What is NM360?
NM360 is a quenched and tempered abrasion-resistant plate to GB/T 24186 with a nominal hardness of 360 HB (38 HRC), 1000 MPa yield, 1200 MPa tensile and 11% elongation; it is the domestic counterpart to Hardox 400. Its low carbon equivalent gives the best weldability (65) and formability (40) in the wear-plate family, so it suits liners and chutes that are welded or bent in the shop. Machinability is low (30) and maximum service temperature is 250 °C. NM450 is the next step up where abrasion is severe. NM360 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,420°C (2,588 °F). NM360 has a yield strength of 1,000 MPa (145 ksi) and a tensile strength of 1,200 MPa (174 ksi) — stronger than 92% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 11% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).

Working with NM360
Is NM360 easy to machine?
Machine with rigid setups and coated carbide or CBN at low speed and generous feed; drilling needs high thrust or pre-drilling by plasma/EDM, and grinding is often preferred for finishing.
Can NM360 be welded?
Low carbon equivalent gives good weldability with low-hydrogen consumables; preheat ~100–150 °C above ~20–30 mm, limit interpass heat input to avoid softening the HAZ, and do not post-weld heat treat above the tempering temperature.
Can NM360 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold-bend transverse to rolling direction with a minimum inside radius of about 3–4× thickness and generous die opening; hot forming is not recommended because it destroys the quenched hardness.
