Compare all 7 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Annealed | Only for intermediate processing or heading/upsetting operations; strength is too low for service use. | 105 | 210 | 18 | 60 HB | 42 % IACS |
Solution heat treated and naturally aged | Slightly lower strength but better ductility than T3; used for extruded bar and for parts needing some bending/staking. | 250 | 370 | 14 | 105 HB | 29 % IACS |
T4 + stress relieved by stretching, drawn to special straightness | Precision-drawn free-machining bar for bar-feeder automats where straightness and low residual stress matter. | 260 | 370 | 12 | 108 HB | 30 % IACS |
Extruded, solution heat treated, stress-relieved by stretching with… | Free-machining Al-Cu-Mg-Pb extrusion in the naturally aged, stretched and lightly straightened condition — high strength with outstanding chip-breaking machinability but poor weldability and corrosion resistance. | 280 | 380 | 10 | 110 HB | 32 % IACS |
T3, stress relieved by stretching | Choose when parts are machined asymmetrically or to tight flatness/straightness and distortion must be minimised. | 280 | 380 | 12 | 110 HB | 30 % IACS |
T3Default Solution heat treated, cold worked and naturally aged | Standard stock condition for free-machining bar/rod on CNC lathes and multi-spindle automats. | 300 | 390 | 10 | 115 HB | 30 % IACS |
Solution heat treated, cold worked and artificially aged | Highest-strength, most dimensionally stable condition; pick for threaded/pressure-loaded turned parts, at the cost of ductility. | 350 | 420 | 8 | 125 HB | 33 % IACS |
What is 2007?
2007 (EN AW-2007, AlCu4PbMgMn) is a lead-bismuth-bearing 2000-series free-machining aluminium alloy supplied almost exclusively as extruded/drawn bar and rod for high-speed automatic-lathe work. The Pb/Sn/Bi additions break up chips and give near-brass machinability while Cu-Mg precipitation gives ~370-400 MPa tensile strength in T3/T4. Limits: poor corrosion resistance and no practical fusion weldability, mediocre cold formability, only fair (grey, mottled) anodic finish, and the lead content restricts it under RoHS/ELV-type regulations. 2007 has a density of 2.85 g/cm³ (0.103 lb/in³), heavier than 96% of aluminum grades. It melts at 508°C (946 °F). 2007 has a yield strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 390 MPa (56.6 ksi) — stronger than 77% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 10% and the elastic modulus is 72 GPa (10.4 Msi).

Working with 2007
Is 2007 easy to machine?
Outstanding free-cutting behaviour — high speeds, sharp positive-rake tools, short broken chips, excellent surface finish and tool life; ideal for bar-fed automats.
Can 2007 be welded?
Not recommended for fusion welding (Pb/Bi cause hot cracking and porosity); join by mechanical fastening, adhesive or press/interference fits.
Can 2007 be formed, bent or molded?
Poor cold formability in T3/T4 — avoid tight bends and severe upsetting; hot extrusion and drawing are done by the mill only.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit applies to 2007. Every 2007 part is priced by an engineer; design inside these and the quote comes back without a redesign loop.
