What is 2095?
2095 (A92095) is a low-density Al-Li-Cu alloy of the Weldalite type, strengthened by lithium and copper additions for high strength and stiffness in aerospace tanks and structures. It is selected for weight-critical hardware: the default aged condition provides 610 MPa yield, 650 MPa tensile, 7% elongation and 175 HB, and it is supplied as plate, sheet, extrusions and forgings in T3 through T87 tempers. The trade-offs are low elongation and formability in T8 tempers, moderate corrosion resistance with exfoliation risk, low thermal conductivity (88 W/m·K), a 150 °C service limit and limited availability. 2195 is the nearest production alternative. 2095 has a density of 2.71 g/cm³ (0.0979 lb/in³), heavier than 51% of aluminum grades. It melts at 560°C (1,040 °F). 2095 has a yield strength of 610 MPa (88.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 650 MPa (94.3 ksi) — stronger than 99% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 7% and the elastic modulus is 78 GPa (11.3 Msi).

Working with 2095
Is 2095 easy to machine?
Machines like 2024-T851 with sharp carbide tooling and flood coolant; Li-bearing chips oxidize readily — keep fines dry and avoid water-based fire fighting on swarf.
Can 2095 be welded?
Designed for fusion welding (VPPA/GTAW) with 2319 or matching Al-Cu-Li filler; use tight cleaning, low heat input and post-weld solution+age or local re-aging to recover joint strength; FSW gives the best properties.
Can 2095 be formed, bent or molded?
Form in O/T3/T4 only; T8 tempers have <8% elongation and crack readily — hot form 300–450 °C or stretch-form after solution treatment, then artificially age.
