What is Ti Grade 7?
Ti Grade 7 (R52400, 3.7235, TA9) is Grade 1 chemistry with a small palladium addition of about 0.2 %, supplied to ASTM B265/B348 for corrosion service. The palladium markedly improves resistance to crevice corrosion and reducing acids compared with unalloyed CP titanium, which is why it is chosen for plate, sheet, tube and forged fittings in chemical plant. Strength is modest at 320 MPa yield and 400 MPa tensile with 25 % elongation, service temperature is limited to 300 °C, and the palladium makes it the most expensive CP-family grade. Where crevice risk is lower, Grade 2 is the obvious substitute; Grade 12 gives similar corrosion behaviour at higher strength and lower cost. Ti Grade 7 has a density of 4.51 g/cm³ (0.163 lb/in³), heavier than 57% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,660°C (3,020 °F). Ti Grade 7 has a yield strength of 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) — weaker than 87% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 105 GPa (15.2 Msi).

Working with Ti Grade 7
Is Ti Grade 7 easy to machine?
Machine like CP Ti: low surface speed, heavy positive-rake sharp tools, rigid setup and flood coolant to avoid galling, work-hardening and chip fires.
Can Ti Grade 7 be welded?
Excellent GTAW/PAW/EBW weldability with matching ERTi-7 filler; requires full argon shielding of pool, root and hot trailing zone to prevent oxygen/hydrogen pickup.
Can Ti Grade 7 be formed, bent or molded?
Good cold formability with generous bend radii (2–3 t) and allowance for springback; warm forming 200–400 °C helps deep draws and hot-formed heads.

Ti Grade 7 — frequently asked
What is Ti Grade 7 used for?
Ti Grade 7 is typically used for chemical process equipment in reducing acids, flue-gas desulfurization components, heat exchangers and seawater equipment with crevice risk. In short: highest corrosion resistance in family; palladium-stabilized crevice resistance; highest-cost CP grade.
What is the yield strength of Ti Grade 7?
Ti Grade 7 has a typical yield strength of 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) — weaker than 87% of titanium grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.
Is Ti Grade 7 easy to machine?
