What is Grade Ti-Pd7B?
Grade Ti-Pd7B is a palladium-alloyed commercially pure titanium casting grade under ASTM B367, where the small palladium addition shifts the corrosion potential and suppresses crevice attack in reducing acids. It is cast into pump and valve components for chemical and flue-gas service, offering 380 MPa yield, 450 MPa tensile, 18 % elongation and 150 HB (80 HRB) with service to about 400 °C. Strength is low and palladium raises cost and lead time, so unalloyed C-2 is used where the environment is only mildly aggressive, and Ti-Pd16 covers the same chemistry at lower palladium content. Grade Ti-Pd7B has a density of 4.51 g/cm³ (0.163 lb/in³), heavier than 57% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,660°C (3,020 °F). Grade Ti-Pd7B has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — weaker than 73% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).
What is Grade Ti-Pd7B used for?

- acid handling valve bodies
Advantages
- High electrical conductivity — 3.3 % IACS, better than 92% of titanium grades
- High service temperature — 400°C (752 °F), better than 78% of titanium grades

Working with Grade Ti-Pd7B
Is Grade Ti-Pd7B easy to machine?
Machine like CP Ti: rigid setup, sharp uncoated-carbide or PVD-coated tools, low surface speed (25–50 m/min), heavy flood coolant, no dwelling — cast skin (alpha case) should be chemically milled or ground off first to avoid rapid tool wear.
Can Grade Ti-Pd7B be welded?
Excellent GTAW/EBW/plasma weldability with matching Ti-Pd filler (ERTi-7); requires trailing shield and back purge to <50 ppm O2/N2 and clean, alpha-case-free surfaces; weld repair of castings is routine and normally followed by a vacuum stress-relief anneal.
Can Grade Ti-Pd7B be formed, bent or molded?
Supplied as vacuum-melted (VAR/induction skull) metal poured into rammed graphite or ceramic investment molds; allow ~1.5–2 % shrink, generous fillets and gating for the low superheat, then HIP at ~900 °C/100 MPa to close microporosity.

What surface finishes work on Grade Ti-Pd7B?
Grit blast plus HF-HNO3 chemical milling to remove alpha case; anodize per AMS 2488 for color/galling resistance, or shot-peen for fatigue; do not plate with copper/nickel in service where galvanic coupling or hydrogen pickup can occur.
