What is Ti Grade 1?
Ti Grade 1 (UNS R50250, 3.7025, ASTM B265/B348, TA1) is the softest and most ductile commercially pure titanium, with the lowest oxygen and iron content of the CP family. Typical annealed properties are 225 MPa yield, 310 MPa tensile, 32% elongation and 120 HB (70 HRB), with a formability score of 88, so it is chosen for deep-drawn sheet, tube, cladding and corrosion-service fabrications. Strength is the lowest of the CP grades and service is capped near 300 °C; machinability is moderate at 42 but the soft matrix smears and galls. Grade 2 is the usual step up when more strength is needed. Ti Grade 1 has a density of 4.51 g/cm³ (0.163 lb/in³), heavier than 57% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,665°C (3,029 °F). Ti Grade 1 has a yield strength of 225 MPa (32.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi) — weaker than 95% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 32% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).

Working with Ti Grade 1
Is Ti Grade 1 easy to machine?
Slow speeds, heavy positive-rake sharp tools, high-pressure flood coolant and rigid setups; the soft low-oxygen matrix smears and work-hardens, so avoid dwelling and never let chips ignite in dry cuts.
Can Ti Grade 1 be welded?
Excellent by GTAW/GMAW/PAW/EB/resistance with ERTi-1 filler, but requires clean surfaces plus trailing-shield or chamber argon protection below ~430 °C to prevent oxygen/nitrogen pickup and weld embrittlement.
Can Ti Grade 1 be formed, bent or molded?
The best-forming titanium grade: cold deep drawing, spinning, roll forming and explosive/roll cladding are all practical, allow generous springback and use 1.5–2 t bend radii or warm forming at 200–300 °C for tight bends.

What surface finishes work on Ti Grade 1?
Pickle in HNO3/HF to remove alpha case and scale, then bead blast, polish, or anodize (colour interference or AMS 2488 hard anodize) to fight the alloy's natural galling tendency; paint adheres well after abrasion or anodizing.

What is Ti Grade 1 used for?
Ti Grade 1 is typically used for chemical process equipment, deep-drawn sheet parts, medical implants (low-load), desalination components and architectural cladding. In short: most formable CP titanium; lowest-strength CP grade; best deep-drawing titanium sheet.
What is the yield strength of Ti Grade 1?
Ti Grade 1 has a typical yield strength of 225 MPa (32.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi) — weaker than 95% of titanium grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 7 listed tempers.
Is Ti Grade 1 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (42/100, better than 98% of titanium grades). Slow speeds, heavy positive-rake sharp tools, high-pressure flood coolant and rigid setups; the soft low-oxygen matrix smears and work-hardens, so avoid dwelling and never let chips ignite in dry cuts.
Can Ti Grade 1 be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated excellent (88/100). Excellent by GTAW/GMAW/PAW/EB/resistance with ERTi-1 filler, but requires clean surfaces plus trailing-shield or chamber argon protection below ~430 °C to prevent oxygen/nitrogen pickup and weld embrittlement.
