What is Ti Grade 26?
Ti Grade 26 (UNS R52404) is a ruthenium-modified version of Grade 2 commercially pure titanium supplied to ASTM B265/B348, where about 0.1% Ru raises crevice-corrosion resistance to a level comparable with palladium-bearing Grade 16 at lower alloy cost. Typical annealed properties are 330 MPa yield, 430 MPa tensile, 24% elongation and 160 HB (82 HRB), with a corrosion score of 96 and service to 300 °C, in sheet, plate, bar, welded tube and clad plate. Strength is modest and machinability poor (score 35), and hot chloride service still needs a temperature and pH review; Grade 7 or Grade 16 are the nearest palladium alternatives. Ti Grade 26 has a density of 4.51 g/cm³ (0.163 lb/in³), heavier than 57% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,660°C (3,020 °F). Ti Grade 26 has a yield strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) — weaker than 83% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 24% and the elastic modulus is 105 GPa (15.2 Msi).

Working with Ti Grade 26
Is Ti Grade 26 easy to machine?
Machine like Grade 2 CP Ti: low surface speed, heavy positive-rake sharp tooling, generous flood coolant, never dwell — work-hardening, galling and chip fire risk.
Can Ti Grade 26 be welded?
Excellent GTAW/PAW/EBW weldability with matching CP Ti or Gr26 filler; requires trailing shield and back purge to keep weld and HAZ below ~200 ppm oxygen pickup (bright silver bead).
Can Ti Grade 26 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold form with generous bend radii (2–3 t) and allow for springback; warm forming at 200–350 °C eases severe draws; avoid steel tooling contact that embeds iron.

What surface finishes work on Ti Grade 26?
Pickle in HNO₃/HF to remove alpha case and embedded iron; anodize (AMS 2488) for colour ID and anti-galling; polishes well but avoid chloride-bearing residues on hot surfaces.
