What is Grade 2-CW?
Grade 2-CW is Grade 2 supplied in the CW condition — highest strength CP-Ti condition for fasteners, springs, wire and small-diameter drawn tube; ductility and formability are reduced. Grade 2-CW has a yield strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) — weaker than 55% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 14% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi). Grade 2-CW has a density of 4.51 g/cm³ (0.163 lb/in³), heavier than 57% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,665°C (3,029 °F). Working with Grade 2-CW
Is Grade 2 easy to machine?
Use rigid setups, sharp uncoated-carbide or polished-flute tools, low surface speed (30–60 m/min) with heavy chlorine-free flood coolant; never dwell or rub, and keep chips away from ignition sources.
Can Grade 2 be welded?
Readily GTAW/plasma/EB welded with ERTi-2 filler under high-purity argon with trailing shield and back purge — weld must stay silver; any blue/grey/white tint means oxygen pickup and embrittlement.
Can Grade 2 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold form with generous bend radii (≈2.5–3 t) and allow for high springback; warm forming at 200–400 °C greatly improves formability, and lubricants must be chloride-free.
What surface finishes work on Grade 2?
Pickle/descale in HNO3-HF after hot work, then bead-blast, electropolish or colour anodize (AMS 2488) for wear and medical colour coding; avoid galling by anodizing or coating mating threads.
