Titanium is as strong as many steels at about 60 % of the weight, and it does not corrode in sea water or the body. It is also slow to cut: heat stays at the tool, so speeds are low. Use Grade 5 for strength, Grade 2 where corrosion and forming matter more.

Commonly used for:

  • Aerospace brackets and fittings
  • Medical instruments
  • Marine hardware
  • Racing and cycling parts
  • Lightweight fasteners

What we make in titanium

Small, high-value parts where weight or corrosion justify the material.

Brackets and fittings

Lightweight structural parts with machined pockets.

Manifolds

Ported blocks with sealing faces, usually 5-axis.

Medical instruments

Handles, guides and instrument parts in Grade 5.

Marine hardware

Fittings and fasteners that sit in sea water.

Fasteners

Custom bolts, studs and spacers turned from bar.

Motorsport parts

Uprights, mounts and spacers where every gram counts.

Titanium machining capabilities

What the standard order holds. Tighter values are quoted per feature from your drawing.

Tolerances

±0.025 mm standard, ±0.01 mm on request

Untoleranced dimensions follow ISO 2768-m. Every tight feature in titanium adds slow finishing passes; keep them to fits and sealing faces.

Part size

500 × 500 × 500 mm on 5-axis

Larger 3-axis parts are quoted from the model; turned parts up to Ø500 × 1,000 mm.

Cost

About 2.5–4× the price of the same part in 6061 aluminum

Expensive stock and slow cutting both count. Removing less material — a near-net blank, fewer deep pockets — lowers the price most.

Walls and pockets

Thicker walls, larger radii than in aluminum

Titanium is springy; thin walls chatter and tight inside radii need small, slow tools.

Threads

Metric and UNC / UNF, tapped or thread-milled

Titanium threads can gall against titanium or stainless. Specify anti-seize or a coated screw for parts that are assembled often.

Finish

As machined, bead blasted or polished

Ra 1.6 µm as machined, Ra 0.8 or 0.4 µm on request on the faces that need it.

Inspection

First-article on every order

CMM reports and mill certificates for the grade are available on request.

Machinability and weldability are the library’s 0–100 scores (Excellent ≥ 85 … Poor < 35); cost is the relative tier, not a price. Every grade links to its datasheet with tempers, heat treatments and the finishes it takes.

Cost by quantity

Ten titanium parts cost about a third each of one part; a hundred, about a sixth.

100 % = one piece of each part. Titanium falls more slowly with quantity: machine time, not setup, is most of its price.

Not a quote. Relative unit prices from the FabDigit quote engine for the parts shown, standard schedule. One titanium manifold costs about 5.9× one aluminum bracket. Method in the CNC machining cost guide.

Grade 5 or Grade 2?

Most machined titanium parts are Grade 5.

GradeKnown forWatch out for
Grade 5Ti-6Al-4VAbout 2.5× the strength of Grade 2; the aerospace and medical standard. The slowest of the two to machine.
Grade 2CP titaniumBest corrosion resistance; easier to form and weld.Lower strength; gummy chips.

Questions about CNC titanium

Why is titanium machining expensive?

The stock costs more and it cuts slowly: titanium holds heat at the tool edge, so speeds are low and tools wear fast. A part usually costs 2.5–4× the same part in 6061 aluminum.

Grade 5 or Grade 2 titanium?

Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) for strength — most machined parts. Grade 2 when corrosion resistance, welding or forming matter more than strength.

Can I order one titanium part?

Yes. There is no minimum order. Quantity lowers titanium prices less than aluminum because machine time is most of the cost.

Should I print titanium instead?

Print with DMLS when the part has internal channels or lattice. Machine it when the shape is open and tolerances are tight; for most parts machining is cheaper.

What tolerance can you hold in titanium?

±0.025 mm on toleranced features as standard, and ±0.01 mm on request. Untoleranced dimensions follow ISO 2768-m.
