Working with Inconel 693 Aged

Is Inconel 693 easy to machine?

Machine like alloy 601/625: rigid setup, positive-rake carbide or ceramic, low speed with heavy positive feed, flood coolant, and never dwell — the alloy work-hardens rapidly.

Can Inconel 693 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW with matching Filler Metal 693; keep heat input and interpass temperature low, clean Al-oxide film before welding, and avoid high-restraint joints because Al+Nb raise hot-cracking risk.

Can Inconel 693 be formed, bent or molded?

Hot work 950–1200 °C then anneal; cold forming is possible but requires ~50% more force than 300-series stainless with intermediate anneals at ~1080 °C.

What surface finishes work on Inconel 693?

Pickle/passivate or grit-blast + descale after hot work; no anodizing — the in-service alumina/chromia scale is the protective layer, so avoid Cu- or S-bearing marking compounds.

Inconel 693 Aged — frequently asked

What is Inconel 693 Aged used for?

Inconel 693 Aged is typically used for waste incinerator components, reformer tubes and high-temperature furnace fixtures. In short: metal-dusting resistant grade; 1100 °C oxidation service; alumina-forming Ni-Cr-Al.

What is the yield strength of Inconel 693 Aged?

Inconel 693 Aged has a typical yield strength of 600 MPa (87 ksi) and a tensile strength of 950 MPa (138 ksi) — stronger than 81% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is Inconel 693 Aged easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated not recommended (13/100, worse than 82% of nickel alloy grades). Machine like alloy 601/625: rigid setup, positive-rake carbide or ceramic, low speed with heavy positive feed, flood coolant, and never dwell — the alloy work-hardens rapidly.

Can Inconel 693 Aged be welded?

With care — weldability is rated fair (45/100). GTAW/GMAW with matching Filler Metal 693; keep heat input and interpass temperature low, clean Al-oxide film before welding, and avoid high-restraint joints because Al+Nb raise hot-cracking risk.

What surface finishes work on Inconel 693 Aged?

Pickle/passivate or grit-blast + descale after hot work; no anodizing — the in-service alumina/chromia scale is the protective layer, so avoid Cu- or S-bearing marking compounds.

Can Inconel 693 Aged be formed, bent or molded?

Hot work 950–1200 °C then anneal; cold forming is possible but requires ~50% more force than 300-series stainless with intermediate anneals at ~1080 °C.

What is the maximum service temperature of Inconel 693 Aged?

Inconel 693 Aged is rated for continuous use to about 1,100°C (2,012 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between Inconel 693-ANN and Inconel 693-CD?

ANN is the default condition — standard stocked condition for all product forms in metal-dusting and high-temperature oxidation service. CD: pick for higher strength, tight tolerance and better surface on small bar and instrument tubing. Yield strength is 400 MPa in ANN versus 700 MPa in CD.
