What is 800?
800 is an Fe-Ni-Cr heat-resisting alloy (N08800/N08810/N08811, 1.4876, X10NiCrAlTi32-21) with a stable austenitic matrix plus Al and Ti additions rather than precipitation hardening. It is specified for carburization and oxidation resistance in furnace and process equipment, and is supplied as tube, pipe, plate, sheet and bar in annealed, cold-drawn and 800H/800HT solution-annealed conditions; annealed values are 250 MPa yield, 600 MPa tensile, 45% elongation, 138 HB (80 HRB) and service to 815 °C. Strength is modest and machinability low (score 30), so Alloy 625 is the usual step up when higher strength or aqueous corrosion resistance is needed. 800 has a density of 7.94 g/cm³ (0.287 lb/in³), lighter than 88% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,357°C (2,475 °F). 800 has a yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 600 MPa (87 ksi) — weaker than 87% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 196.5 GPa (28.5 Msi).

Working with 800
Is 800 easy to machine?
Machine like a work-hardening austenitic alloy: rigid setup, positive-rake sharp carbide, low speed (20–35 m/min) with heavy constant feed and flood sulfo-chlorinated coolant, never dwell in the cut.
Can 800 be welded?
Readily welded by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with ERNiCr-3(82) or ENiCrFe-3 filler, low heat input, no preheat and no PWHT required for most service; keep sulfur and lead contamination off the joint.
Can 800 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in the annealed condition but ~2× the power of 304; hot work 900–1200 °C and re-anneal at 980–1010 °C (800H/HT 1120–1180 °C for coarse grain).

What surface finishes work on 800?
Not anodizable — pickle in HNO3-HF or grit blast plus passivation, electropolish or mechanically polish; oxide scale after high-temperature service is tenacious and needs acid descaling.

Is 800 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated poor (30/100, better than 90% of nickel alloy grades). Machine like a work-hardening austenitic alloy: rigid setup, positive-rake sharp carbide, low speed (20–35 m/min) with heavy constant feed and flood sulfo-chlorinated coolant, never dwell in the cut.
Can 800 be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated excellent (85/100). Readily welded by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with ERNiCr-3(82) or ENiCrFe-3 filler, low heat input, no preheat and no PWHT required for most service; keep sulfur and lead contamination off the joint.

What is the maximum service temperature of 800?
800 is rated for continuous use to about 815°C (1,499 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
What is the difference between 800-ANN and 800-CD?
ANN is the default condition — default stocked condition for 800 plate, sheet, tube and bar; best ductility, formability and corrosion resistance. CD: pick when higher room-temperature strength, straightness and surface finish are needed; ductility and formability drop and stress-relief may be required. Yield strength is 250 MPa in ANN versus 500 MPa in CD.
