What is ERNiCrFe-5?
ERNiCrFe-5 is a niobium-stabilized nickel-chromium-iron filler wire (N06062, Inconel Filler Metal 62) for welding Inconel 600/601 and the Incoloy 800 series. It gives higher deposit strength than ERNiCr-3 — about 400 MPa yield, 655 MPa tensile, 38% elongation and 180 HB (88 HRB) — with oxidation resistance to roughly 980 °C, and runs on GTAW, GMAW and SAW from cold-drawn wire or cut lengths. Machinability is poor (score 22), so dressing is usually done by grinding rather than milling. Where maximum hot-cracking tolerance in heavy restrained joints is the priority, ERNiCr-3 remains the common alternative. ERNiCrFe-5 has a density of 8.42 g/cm³ (0.304 lb/in³), heavier than 58% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,330°C (2,426 °F). ERNiCrFe-5 has a yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 655 MPa (95 ksi) — stronger than 56% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 38% and the elastic modulus is 207 GPa (30 Msi).

Working with ERNiCrFe-5
Is ERNiCrFe-5 easy to machine?
Weld deposits machine like alloy 600 — low speed, heavy positive-rake sharp carbide tools, rigid setup and flood coolant to avoid work hardening; grind flush rather than mill where possible.
Can ERNiCrFe-5 be welded?
Runs on GTAW/GMAW/SAW with Ar or Ar-He shielding; keep interpass below ~150 °C, use stringer beads and low heat input, and clean between passes to avoid oxide entrapment in the sluggish pool.
Can ERNiCrFe-5 be formed, bent or molded?
Supplied as cold-drawn wire; the deposit is highly ductile and can be cold worked or bent after welding, but springback and work hardening are high.
