What is ERNiCrCoMo-1?

ERNiCrCoMo-1 is a solid-solution nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum filler (N06617, Inconel Filler Metal 617) matching Alloy 617 base metal. It is selected for creep strength and oxidation resistance in gas turbine and high-temperature process welds, with as-welded values near 430 MPa yield, 740 MPa tensile, 40% elongation and 185 HB (92 HRB) and service to about 1100 °C. Supplied as drawn wire and cut lengths for GTAW, GMAW and PAW. Cobalt content raises cost and narrows availability to specialty suppliers, and machinability is poor (score 20); ERNiCrMo-3 is the alternative where wet corrosion rather than creep governs. ERNiCrCoMo-1 has a density of 8.36 g/cm³ (0.302 lb/in³), heavier than 54% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,332°C (2,430 °F). ERNiCrCoMo-1 has a yield strength of 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 740 MPa (107 ksi) — stronger than 64% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 40% and the elastic modulus is 211 GPa (30.6 Msi).

What is ERNiCrCoMo-1 used for?

Working with ERNiCrCoMo-1

Is ERNiCrCoMo-1 easy to machine?

Weld deposit machines like a solid-solution superalloy — rigid setup, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed (15–25 m/min) and heavy constant feed to avoid work hardening.

Can ERNiCrCoMo-1 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW/PAW with 100 % Ar (or Ar+He for GMAW); stringer beads, heat input <1.5 kJ/mm, interpass <150 °C to limit ductility-dip and HAZ liquation cracking; normally no PWHT.

Can ERNiCrCoMo-1 be formed, bent or molded?

Supplied as drawn wire; cold bending of the deposit is possible but springback is high and cold work below 1000 °C should be followed by solution annealing.

Is ERNiCrCoMo-1 easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (20/100, better than 53% of nickel alloy grades). Weld deposit machines like a solid-solution superalloy — rigid setup, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed (15–25 m/min) and heavy constant feed to avoid work hardening.

Can ERNiCrCoMo-1 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated very good (80/100). GTAW/GMAW/PAW with 100 % Ar (or Ar+He for GMAW); stringer beads, heat input <1.5 kJ/mm, interpass <150 °C to limit ductility-dip and HAZ liquation cracking; normally no PWHT.
