What is C80700?
C80700 is a standard cast copper to ASTM B369 used for general-purpose electrical and structural copper castings. It provides 92% IACS and 350 W/m·K with 62 MPa yield, 172 MPa tensile, 40% elongation and 44 HB, and it solders, brazes and welds readily, which suits electrical castings and plumbing fittings operating up to about 200 °C. Casting is the limiting step: fluidity is poor and gas absorption is high, so sections must be simple and well fed. C80500 is the closest alternative and C80300 is used when full 100% IACS conductivity is needed. C80700 has a density of 8.94 g/cm³ (0.323 lb/in³), heavier than 90% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,065°C (1,949 °F). C80700 has a yield strength of 62 MPa (8.99 ksi) and a tensile strength of 172 MPa (24.9 ksi) — weaker than 99% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 40% and the elastic modulus is 117 GPa (17 Msi).

Working with C80700
Is C80700 easy to machine?
Gummy and long-chipping — use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed, low feed and generous coolant; rating only ~20 % of AISI 1212.
Can C80700 be welded?
Readily GTAW/GMAW welded with deoxidized copper filler (ERCu) and 250–500 °C preheat due to the very high thermal conductivity; keep hydrogen out of the arc.
Can C80700 be formed, bent or molded?
Poor fluidity and strong gas absorption — needs high pouring temperature, heavy risering/chills, protective melting and boron/lithium deoxidation to avoid porosity.
C80700 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Bboron deoxidizer residual | 0.02 – 0.04 | 0.03 |
| Agcounted as copper when present | — | |
| Cuincluding silver | ≥ 99.7 (balance) |
What surface finishes work on C80700?
Solders and brazes easily; can be electroplated (Ni, Ag, Sn) or polished bright, but bare surfaces tarnish and need lacquer or plating for appearance.
