What is TBe1.9?
TBe1.9 is a cast beryllium bronze, the casting counterpart to the wrought copper–beryllium grades, supplied as F and T6 castings and in TB, TD, TF and TH conditions. Fully aged material gives 1030 MPa yield, 1200 MPa tensile, 4 % elongation, 360 HB / 38 HRC with 118 W/m·K and 22 % IACS, which suits high-strength, wear-resistant and non-sparking cast components such as bushings and mould inserts. Service is limited to about 200 °C, ductility is low, and all cutting and grinding must be dust-controlled because of the beryllium content. TBe1.9 has a density of 8.26 g/cm³ (0.298 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 865°C (1,589 °F). TBe1.9 has a yield strength of 1,030 MPa (149 ksi) and a tensile strength of 1,200 MPa (174 ksi) — stronger than 99% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 4% and the elastic modulus is 130 GPa (18.9 Msi).

Working with TBe1.9
Is TBe1.9 easy to machine?
Machines like a hard bronze in the aged (TF00/TH04) state with carbide tools, positive rake and flood coolant; all cutting, grinding and polishing must be wet or locally exhausted because beryllium-bearing dust and fume are toxic.
Can TBe1.9 be welded?
Fusion welding is difficult (Be oxide film, loss of ageing response) — prefer resistance, laser or electron-beam welding on solution-treated material and re-age afterwards; braze/solder with pre-cleaned, flux-protected joints.
Can TBe1.9 be formed, bent or molded?
Form only in TB00/TD01 tempers then precipitation age (typically ~315–330 °C, 2–3 h) allowing for ~0.1–0.3 % shrinkage; castings need controlled melting under cover and full solution treatment (~790 °C, water quench) before ageing.
