What is C82800?
C82800 is the highest-strength cast beryllium copper in the C80000–C82999 family, supplied under ASTM B824 as Alloy 275C and hardened by solution treatment plus ageing (M, M01, TB00, TF00 on file). It provides 1000 MPa yield, 1069 MPa tensile, 400 HB (43 HRC), 131 GPa modulus and 105 W/m·K in cast form, so it is used for the most heavily loaded mould, wear and non-sparking tooling castings. Elongation is only 0.5 %, machinability is about 20 % of AISI 1212, service is limited to 200 °C and conductivity is 20 % IACS. C82600 is the nearest alternative when slightly easier machining is wanted. C82800 has a density of 8.25 g/cm³ (0.298 lb/in³), lighter than 84% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 857°C (1,575 °F). Working with C82800
Is C82800 easy to machine?
Machinability ~20 % of AISI 1212; use sharp carbide tooling, rigid setups and flood coolant with HEPA/wet dust control — beryllium-bearing dust and fines are a health hazard.
Can C82800 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW with matching BeCu filler is possible but the weld and HAZ must be re-solutionized and re-aged; forced ventilation and fume extraction are mandatory.
Can C82800 be formed, bent or molded?
Shaped by sand, permanent-mold or investment casting only; the aged material has <1 % elongation and cannot be cold formed — do all machining before final aging where possible.
