What is ERNiMo-7?
ERNiMo-7 is a low-carbon, chromium-free Ni-Mo filler wire (UNS N10665) for welding Hastelloy B-2 and B-3 in hydrochloric and sulfuric acid service. Supplied as drawn wire for GTAW and GMAW, its deposits run about 470 MPa yield, 780 MPa tensile, 35 % elongation and 92 HRB, with service to 400 °C. Without chromium, resistance to oxidizing media and ferric or cupric contamination is limited (corrosion rating 84), and stress relief in the 550–900 °C range must be avoided. For mixed oxidizing-reducing acids, use a Ni-Cr-Mo filler such as ERNiCrMo-13. ERNiMo-7 has a density of 9.22 g/cm³ (0.333 lb/in³), heavier than 97% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,330°C (2,426 °F). ERNiMo-7 has a yield strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 780 MPa (113 ksi) — stronger than 68% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 35% and the elastic modulus is 217 GPa (31.5 Msi).
What is ERNiMo-7 used for?
- hydrochloric acid processing

- pharmaceutical reactor fabrication
Limitations
- Low electrical conductivity — 1.3 % IACS, worse than 97% of nickel alloy grades
- Limited service temperature — 400°C (752 °F), worse than 94% of nickel alloy grades

Working with ERNiMo-7
Is ERNiMo-7 easy to machine?
Deposits machine like a strongly work-hardening Ni alloy — rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, low surface speed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling.
Can ERNiMo-7 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW with 100 % Ar (add He for wetting); keep interpass ≤120 °C and heat input low, use stringer beads, no post-weld stress relief in the 550–900 °C range, and solution anneal + rapid quench if service is severe HCl.
Can ERNiMo-7 be formed, bent or molded?
Supplied as drawn wire; redrawing or re-spooling requires intermediate solution anneals because the alloy work-hardens rapidly.

What surface finishes work on ERNiMo-7?
Pickle or mechanically clean the weld surface — heat tint and embedded iron sharply reduce HCl resistance; do not use chloride-bearing or oxidizing pickling pastes that attack Cr-free Ni-Mo.

ERNiMo-7 — frequently asked
What is ERNiMo-7 used for?
ERNiMo-7 is typically used for hydrochloric acid processing, sulfuric acid equipment and pharmaceutical reactor fabrication. In short: chromium-free Ni-Mo filler; matched to Hastelloy B-2/B-3; for reducing acid duty.
What is the yield strength of ERNiMo-7?
ERNiMo-7 has a typical yield strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 780 MPa (113 ksi) — stronger than 68% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 2 listed tempers.
Is ERNiMo-7 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated poor (16/100, worse than 71% of nickel alloy grades). Deposits machine like a strongly work-hardening Ni alloy — rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, low surface speed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling.
Can ERNiMo-7 be welded?

What is the maximum service temperature of ERNiMo-7?
ERNiMo-7 is rated for continuous use to about 400°C (752 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
